Unit THEME: Consumerism and Financial Awareness
Wise Savings

Linda wanted to start a shelter to save stray animals. She needed a suitable place and money to make this happen. She shared her idea with some of her friends and together they worked out a plan. First, they decided to go around the neighbourhood and collect old newspapers, aluminium cans and anything that could be sold. Then, they went around on weekends doing odd jobs like cleaning, gardening, washing cars and even painting.

When people heard about their worthy cause, many chipped in to help. One group made blank cards which they put neatly into packs of six. Another group made cookies, cakes and pickles, which sold very well. Many even donated generously in cash! Linda and her friends also collected items to sell online. Besides clothes, costume jewellery, toys, books, crockery and glassware, they even sold furniture! One man donated his old car, which they sold online for RM3,200. It was such a bonus!

Finally, after a year of hard work and commitment, they managed to raise RM15,000 in total. That was so encouraging! It was enough for them to start looking for a suitable location for the animal shelter. When people saw the good work they were doing, even more donations poured in and many people volunteered their services to keep the costs low. It was an amazing achievement built from passion, determination and a love for animals.
