Toothbrush Showdown

What gives your teeth the best clean — manual or electric?

It depends on how conscientious you are, says dentist Dr Rod Marshall of Australia’s University of Queensland. A manual toothbrush is fine if you are skilled in the art of brushing. Sadly, “probably only ten per cent of people know how to brush their teeth properly,” says Marshall.

There are so many choices of toothbrushes in the market. You can select a conventional
head that is shaped roughly like a rectangle with rounded corners or you can choose a diamond head which is narrower at the top and can help reach into tight spaces around the back teeth.

lf you brush under sufferance, or do not have a lot of time, an electric toothbrush may be the better choice — it can deliver a polished smile in two minutes, half the time of a manual toothbrush. Electric toothbrush can also motivate children to brush regularly.

Where the small-headed electric toothbrush really excel is in hard-to-reach places. They also stop you from brushing too hard — the motor cuts out.

What is the right way to clean? Brush in small circles with the bristles angled towards the gum at 45 degrees. For tricky areas, keep the same angle, but do a mini scrub back and forth. Manual or electric toothbrush, you will still need to floss.

Most dentists recommend using a soft-bristled toothbrush for sensitive teeth and gum. If you have trouble with plague building up, you should use a medium-bristled toothbrush for a more effective cleaning. Most importantly, you need to brush your teeth at least once in the morning and once at night before you go to bed.

And why the sudden kiss?
You'd help me with some little jobs?
For goodness sake,what's this?

Your face is clean for once, dear.
Your clothes without a crease.
You saved your luncheon money?
Will wonders never cease?

No dropping of your school books,
No shrieking,childish treble.
Today you are a lamb,love
Where yesterday a rebel.

But surely you’re some stranger,
No rage or hullabaloo.
Come closer,let me look, dear,
Can this be REALLY you?

Now were you struck by lightning
Or were you stunned at sport?
Ah....now I see the reason.
You've brought your school report!
